TermDefinition
Population All the individuals in a species who are together at a certain time and place.
Community All populations living in one place at the same time.
Ecosystem Environment. All communities of living organisms interacting with the environment.
How do organisms survive? The ability to respond and change to its environment.
How do populations increase? With enough food and shelter. No disease or predators.
How do populations decrease? Lack of food and shelter. Disease and predators.
Producers (Green plants) use light energy to produce (make) their own food.
Consumers (Animals) Eat energy rich foods.
Herbivores Eat plants only
Carnivores Eat animals only
Omnivores Eat plants AND animals.
Decomposers(bacteria and fungi) Eat wastes and/or dead organisms
Energy chart of an ecosystem sun, producers, consumers, decomposers
Competitive interaction Predator and prey
Harmful interaction parasites
Beneficial interaction species help other species survive
