Percent weight-in-weight (w/w) expresses the number of grams of solute in 100 grams of product.Zinc oxide ointment contains 20% zinc oxide in white ointment. This means that each 100 grams of ointment will contain 20 grams of zinc oxide.
Percent weight-in-volume (w/v) expresses the number of grams of solute in 100ml of solution.A 20% potassium chloride solution will contain 20 grams of potassium chloride in each 100ml of solution.
Percent volume-in-volume (v/v) expresses the number of milliliters of a liquid contained in each 100ml of solution.95% alcohol contains 95ml of alcohol in each 100ml of solution.
