Mixtures and Solutions - Investigation 3

Concentration The amount of solute dissolved compared to a unit of solvent.
Dilute To make a solution less concentrated, usually by adding more liquid.
Volume The amount of space an object takes up, in this unit, the amount of space a liquid takes up
Solute A substance that dissolves in a solvent to form a solution
Solvent A substance that dissolves a solute to form a solution
Density mass per unit volume
Solution A special mixture in which one or more substances dissolves in a solvent
Dissolve When a solute breaks down into tiny pieces and spreads out evenly throughout the solution
Concentrated A solution containing a lot of solute
Saturated The solvent can't dissolve any more solute.
Soluble A substance that is capable of being dissolved.
Insoluble A substance that is not able to dissolve
