Machine a device doing some kind of work
Simple Machine the general term for the six tools that make work easier
Work the exchange of energy for some change in a physical system
Mechanical Work when a force acts on an object to move it in a direction parallel to the force vector
Compound Machine more than one simple machine working together
Effort the amount of work being exerted
Inclined Plane a tilted surface which allows a resistance to be lifted with less effort
Pulley a wheel with a groove containing a rope or cable
Wedge two inclined planes in the shape of a V that is used to split an object
Screw an inclined plane wrapped around a central shaft in a spiral shape
Gear wheel and axle combinations with notches or teeth around the circumference
Wheel and Axle a rotating object where the force is applied at some distance from the axis
Lever a rigid bar that turns on a point, or a fulcrum
Joule unit of work
Watts unit of power
Newton unit of force
Time the non-physical continuum that orders the sequence of events
Percent what efficiency is expressed as
Power work divided by interval of time
Force work is this times distance; a push or pull
Meters units used to measure distance
