| polymer | a large molecule made up of smaller molecules, called monomers, linked together. poly = many |
| carbohydrate | an energy-rich organic compound made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. |
| glucose | a monomer of complex carbohydrates. |
| lipid | an energy-rich organic compound made of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen, that includes fats, oils, and wax. |
| nucleic acid | a very large organic compound made of carbon, hydrogen, lipid, nitrogen, and phosphorus. examples are DNA and RNA |
| DNA | deoxyribonucleic acid - a type of nucleic acid |
| RNA | ribonucleic acid - a type of nucleic acid |
| nucleotide | a monomer of nucleic acids |
