Light and Circuits
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Absorb | When light hits an object, the object takes in some of the light rays |
| Reflect | When light hits an object and bounces back to our eyes |
| Refract | When light passes through an object, it bends |
| Transmit | Light passing through an object |
| Emit | To produce light |
| Conductor | Metals are good conductors because they allow electricity and heat to pass through them. |
| Insulator | A material that does not allow electricity and heat to easily flow through it. The best insulators are made of rubber. |
| Circuit | The path of the flow of electricity. |
| Series circuit | A circuit that has one path for the electricity to flow through. If one bulb goes out, they all go out. |
| Parallel circuit | A circuit that has multiple paths for the electricity to flow through and will continue to work if one of the bulbs go out. |
| Light Travels... | In a straight line until it strikes an object |
| Open Switch | Makes an incomplete circuit that does not work. |
| Closed Switch | Makes a complete circuit that does work. |
| Electric Current | The flow of electrons through a path (conductor). |
| Battery | The supply or source of electrons to a circuit. |
| Prism | A tool that refracts white light into its separate colors. |
| Medium | A material or object. |
| Lens | An curved transparent object used to refract light. |
