Poetry Artistic writing that creates word pictures.
Prose Ordinary writing in sentences
Meter A rhythmic pattern of word sounds

Personification something non- human doing something only humans do
Alliteration The repetition of the same sounds at the beginning of words

Metaphor A comparison without using "like" or "as"
Simile A comparison using "like" or "as"
Stanza A paragraph in a poem
End rhyme Last words of each line ends with the same sound
Allusion A brief reference to something or someone
Couplet Two lines that rhyme
Haiku A single subject poem in 3 lines that do not rhyme
Dialogue Lines spoken by actors in a script
Drama A story written to be preformed by actors: a play
Act A major section of a play, mode of several scenes
Scene A subdivision of an act
Script The written text of a play
