What is etymology? The study of the origin of words.
What does origin mean? The beginning
Why is it important to study etymology? To increase our vocabulary.
Why is it important to increase our vocabulary? The more vocabulary words we know, the more we understand what we READ!
When we analyze vocabulary words, how many pieces are we breaking the words into? Three
Name the three pieces or parts of a vocabulary word that we analyze to determine the meaning? Prefix, Root, Suffix
What do we call each of these pieces or parts? morphemes
What does morph mean? to change form
What is morphology? The study of how words change meaning when we add or subtract a prefix or suffix to a root.
Explain the R, L, and I in our Reading Standards. The R is Reading, the L is Literature, the I is Informational Text.
