Eclipse An event in which the shadow of one celestial body falls on another. ex. solar eclipse
Umbra A shadow that blocks sunlight, such as the conical section in the shadow of the earth or the moon. (shadow blocks sunlight)
Penumbra the partially shaded outer region of the shadow cast by an opaque object. (sunlight practically blocked)
Gibbous Moon More than half but less than fully illuminated from the point of view of an observer. *half lit
Waxing Moon illuminated area is increasing * grow
Wanning Moon illuminated area is decreasing *shrink
