| bose einstein condensate | super cold state of matter that clumps together, barely moving |
| plasma | super hot state of matter found in stars and lightning |
| endothermic | process that absorbs energy from the surroundings, feels cold |
| exothermic | process that releases energy into the surroundings, feels warm |
| vaporization | liquid to gas |
| condensation | gas to liquid |
| freezing | liquid to solid |
| sublimation | solid to gas |
| deposition | gas to solid |
| ionization | gas to plasma |
| deionization | plasma to gas |
| slanted lines | lines that show a single phase on a phase change graph |
| horizontal lines | lines that show a phase change, 2 phases present, on a phase change graph |
| kinetic energy | energy change during an increase in temperature |
| potential energy | energy change during a phase change |
| property | characteristic of a substance that can be observed |
| physical property | property that can be observed WITHOUT changing the identity of the substance |
| chemical property | property that can only be observed by changing the identity of the substance |
| melting point | temperature at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid |
| boiling point | temperature at which a substance changes from liquid to gas |
| density | mass per unit volume |
| change | act of altering a substance |
| physical change | a change that occurs without changing the identity of the substance |
| chemical change | a change that occurs causing the identity of the substance to change |
| chemical reaction | a chemical change, cannot be undone or reversed by physical means |
