| Chemical property | Characteristic of a substance that describes its ability to change into other substances. |
| Physical change | Any change that alters the form or appearance of a substance, but does not make the substance into another substance |
| Chemical change | Also called a chemical reaction, this is a change in matter that produces one or more NEW substances. The atoms are REARRANGED (do not disappear) to form new substances with different physical and chemical properties. |
| Reactant | The substances that undergo a chemical change or reaction |
| Product | The NEW substances that are formed from a chemical change or reaction. |
| Precipitate | A solid that forms from a solution during a chemical change or reaction. |
| Endothermic reaction | The making and breaking of bonds results in a net absorption of energy that leads to cooling. |
