What may cause hearing loss? Blow to the head or ear, birth-defects, malformation of part of the outer or middle ear, a tiny hole or perforation in the eardrum, wax build-up & middle ear infection
sensory hearing loss affect one or both ears and occurs when the cochlea is not working properly because cilia have been damaged or distroyed; almost always permanent
What disease may pregnant women get that may cause hearing loss? Rubella (german measles) other causes of hearing loss may include Meds, severe had injury, frequent loud music and other loud noises(factory etc.)
Drug-induced haring loss use of some ototoxic drugs that impair hearing and balance Ex. IV aminoglycosides, loop direcetics, antineoplastic(anti-cancer)
large doses of aspirin can cause what? tinnitus ringing in the ear
neural hearing loss when there is a problem with the connection from the cochlea to the brain this type of hearing loss is permanent
Presbycusis permant loss of hearing due to damaged hearing nerves
Hearing deteriorates with age what is the first to go? sensitivity to high-pitched sounds fades first
Otits media infection and inflammation of the middle ear if not treated permanent hearing loss occurs
rupture of the tympanic membrane(eardrum) and or meningitis develops 1st time therapy for treatment of otitis media in children Bactrim(Sulamathoxazole-trimethoprim) (SMZ-TMP) and amoxil, trimox, Wymox (Amoxicillin)
