Rhetoric for 10th grade

Allusion Reference to something famous

Pathos How the author elicits emotions out of the audience to persuade
Alliteration Repetition of beginning sounds to bring attention to a section
Diction Author's intentional word choice for a purpose
Hyperoble Excessive exaggeration
Anaphora Repetition of beginning words or phrases in multiple sections
Metaphor Comparison not using like or as, form of figurative language.
Parallelism Sections of a sentence that are grammatically similar to themselves (example: listing three verbs that all end in -ing)
Repetition Author says or writes a word several times for emphasis
Antithesis Opposite ideas are presented in one parallel sentence
Anastrophe Inversion of normal word order
