Tumors & Cancerous Growths
*occur when skin cells multiply or reproduce faster than normal. Thoses that do so without cell mutation are considered benign or non cancerous. Those that reproduce rapidly and with cell mutation are considered malignant or cancerous.
**3 TYPES OF SKIN CANCER** Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma.
Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common & most curable Squamous cell carcinoma is the 2nd most common & accounts for 20% of all skin cancers.
Malignant Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Precancerous Conditions-Ak- actinic keratosis or solar keratosis5% of AK's become squamous cell carcinoma.
Carcinoma-malignant tumorsMiscellaneous- skin conditions & diseasesHyperkeratosis- calluses, corns, & warts wrinkles- caused by a breakdown of collagen & elastinRosacea- a facial skin disorder accompanied by chronic reddness & inflammation and/or acneSpiderveins- broken blood vessels
