3 Types of skin infection-
Viral, Bacterial, and Fungal
Infection- invasion of pathogens into the body. An infection occurs when a pathogenic microbe is able to multiply in the tissue(colonize) **Viral Infections- Herpes simplex, warts, shingles(herpes zoster, chicken pox, measles
There is a new drug for treatment of sexually transmitted external genital warts, known as Aldara (imiquimod) 5% cream. This cream is an immunododulator. These are caused by HPV- human papilloma virus. HPV is the most common STD-not curable
*Bacterial Infections- can be caused by many different bacteria. The most common bacterial pathogens (desease causing micro organisms) are staphylocci, streptocci, & pseudomonas. EX: Lyme disease, (impetigo, folliculitis & cellulitis) 3 most common.
Treatment options- Topically or orally administerd antibiotic.
Antibacterial agents can either be Bactericidal(kills) or Bacteriostatic(inhibits the growth and or bacteria reprocuction of micro organisms
