private acceptance | real change in opinions for person who has conformed |
psychological reactance | emotional state that is aroused when our ability to choose which behaviors to engage in is eliminated or threatened with elimination. The outcome of the experience is that we may not conform at all, instead rebel against expressed opinions of others |
publi compliance | superficial change in behavior (including public expression of opinions), which is not accompanied by an actual change in private opinion |
social impact | increase in the amount of conformity that is produced by adding new members to the majority group. impact is greater for initial groups members than for later group members |
social norms | socially accepted beliefs about what we do/should do in social contexts |
social power | ability of an individual to create behavioral or belief changes in another person, even when person be influenced attempts to resist those changes |
