Term | Definition |
---|---|
Energy Transfers | the movement of energy from one item to another |
Energy Transformations | the change of energy from one form to another |
Energy | the ability to do work |
Nuclear Energy | the energy produced from the bonding of atoms(fusion) or the breaking of atoms(fission) |
Sound Energy | energy of vibration through matter |
Electricity | energy released by the movement of electrons |
Conduction | the transfer of heat from direct contact of two solid surfaces |
Convection | the transfer of heat by the movement of gas or liquid |
Radiation | transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves |
Temperature | measurement of how hot or cold something is |
Kinetic Theory of Matter | all matter is made up of particles that are constantly moving in random patterns |
Law of Conservation of Energy | energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one type to another |
Thermal Energy | heat energy |
Mechanical Energy | energy of movement |
Chemical Energy | energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules |
Density | how tightly packed the particles are in an object |
Mass | the amount of matter in an object- measured in grams |
Speed | measure of how fast something is moving |
Velocity | speed and direction |
Acceleration | change in speed |
Potential Energy | energy based on an object's position |
Kinetic Energy | energy based on an object's motion |
