What is the difference between tachypnea and bradypnea? Tachypnea means breathing fast and bradypnea means breathing slow.
When moving and lifting patients, what part of the object do we want closest to the body? Heaviest part
What is subjective data? Information you have learned from the patient or from the people caring for the patient.
What are some examples of good nonverbal communication that we can convey to our patients? A professional appearance, good posture, eye-contact, distance, good listening skills, and silence when needed.
What is a nosocomial infection? Infection acquired in the course of medical care
What is medical asepsis? To eliminate as best as possible all microorganisms by the use of soap, water, friction, and chemical disinfectants.
What is the average pulse rate for an adult? 60- 90 BPM
What is the normal respiration rate for an adult? 15-20 per minute
What is the normal body temperature for an adult? 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit
What is a crash cart? Cart that contains medications and equipment that are needed when a patient's condition suddenly becomes critical.
What are some causes of a hypovolemic shock? Trauma, hemorrhage, vomiting, diarrhea, and burns
What would be seen during a mild case of anaphylactic shock? Nasal congestion, itching, sneezing
What is a code blue? Emergency call system for a cardio or respiratory arrest
List some devices used for immobilization. Pigg-o-stat, sandbags, velcro boards, sheet wraps, lead aprons, sponges, tape
What is the difference between a drug generic name and brand name? A generic name identifies the chemical family and always begins with a lower case letter. A brand name is assigned by the manufacturer and the first letter is always capitalized.
What are the six rights of medication administration? Right dose, right medication, right patient, right time, right route, and right documentation
What is the crash cart drug, Heparin, used for? Blood thinner
What size needle should be used for a trauma patient who needs large volumes of medicine very rapidly? 16 gauge
Where should a tourniquet be placed in relation to a site of access? 5-6 inches above needle stick site
What position should the needle bevel maintain during a stick? Less than a 30 degree angle
