**Estrogen Therapy**
Used by both genders includes ERT (estrogen replacement therapy)-women who had their ovaries removed during reproductive years(before menapose *Used in older women for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis and as palliative treatment for breast or prostate cancer. Containdicated: women who have breast cancer, pregnacy, and lactation. Men with breast cancer can use it.
**Drugs that have an effect on the Renal system(kidneys, bladder,and uranary)
#1# Diuretics (most common is HCTZ)5 MAJOR CLASSES OF DIURETICS-
1. Osmotic diuretics- Highly effective in the treatment of cerebral edimia(swelling of the brain)Ex: Glycerin, Isosorbide, and Mannitol-Stat
2. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors- Used for glacoma & epelepsy to lessen the effects of high altitude. Ex: Acetazolamide (Diamox), and Methazolamide (Neptazome)
3. Thiazide & Thiazide like Treatment for hypertension. EX: Chlorthiazide, Hydrochlorthiazide(HCTZ)
4. Loop Diuretics Ex: Furosemide (Lasix), Bumetanide(Bumex). High ceiling diuretics. In high doses loop diuretics increase urine out put so much that it can be dangerous. This can lead to decrease blood volume and cause death. They are used for acute pulmanry ademia or eme
5. Potassium Sparing Used in the treatment of ademia associated with CHF, Hepatic cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease (Hyperkalemia-High Potassium) EX: Amiloride, Spironolactone
