| arc | a smoothly curved line |
| charcoal | black porous substance that is a form of carbon made from heating wood or other organic materials in the absence of air |
| herd | a large group of animals that typically live and roam together |
| furnace | an enclosed metal chamber used to burn fuel in order to produce |
| Puritan | a member of the group of Protestants in the 16th and 17th century England who wanted simple church services and a strict moral code |
| firmly | adverb that means strong and solid |
| perspective | a particular way of looking at a situation |
| boring | not interesting - dull |
| ore | a rock that contains metal |
| port | a harbor or place where boats and ships can dock or anchor safely |
