| INSIGHT-ORIENTED THERAPY | Face to face discussion of life problems and associated feelings. Also called psychodynamic therapy |
| KLEPTOMANIA | Obsession and reoccupation to steal |
| LABILE | Unstable, undergoing rapid emotional change |
| LITHIUM | Medication used to treat the manic stage of bipolar illness |
| MANIA | Extreme excitement, hyperactive elation, and agitation. |
| MENTAL | Pertaining to the mind |
| MOOD DISORDERS | Prolonged emotion dominates a person's life; examples are bipolar and depressive disorders. |
| MUTISM | Nonreactive state with inability to speak |
| NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY | Grandiose sense of self- importance or uniqueness and preoccupation with fantasies of success and power. Great interest in self and lack of empathy for others |
| NEUROLEPTIC DRUG | A drug that take controls of the neurological system |
| NEUROTRANSMITTER | Transmitter in the neurological system. They communicate in the neuro system. eg. serotonin and norepinephrine |
| OBSESSION | An involuntary, persistent idea or emotion. eg pyromania is an obsession with fire |
| OBSESSION-COMPULSIVE DISORDER | Anxiety disorder in which recurrent thoughts and repetitive acts dominate behavior |
| OPOIDS | A group of drugs includes heroin and morphine, synthetic drug with codeine derivatives ( codeine, Demerol, oxycodone. Prescribed pain killers, cough suppressants. |
| PARANOIA | Overly suspicious system of thinking with fixed delusions of being harassed, persecuted, or unfairly treated |
| PARANOIA PERSONALITY | Continual suspicious and mistrustful of other people but not to a psychotic or delusional degree; jealous, overly concerned with hidden motives of others, quick to take offense |
| PARAPHILIA | Recurrent intense sexual urge, fantasy, or behavior that involves unusual objects, activities, or situations |
| PEDOPHILIA | sexual urges and fantasies involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child ( age 13 or younger) |
| PERSONALITY DISORDERS | Lifelong personality patterns marked by inflexibility and impairment of social functioning |
| PERVASIVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS | Group of childhood disorders characterized by delays in socialization and communication skills; autism and Asperger syndrome are examples |
