| newton | SI unit for magnitude or strength |
| net force | combination of all forces acting on an object |
| unbalanced forces | forces causing an object to change in velocity |
| balanced forces | equal forces acting on an object in oppisite directions |
| friction | force that exerts when 2 surfaces rub on each other |
| static friction | friction on objects that aren't moving |
| sliding friction | friction on 2 solid objects sliding over each other |
| rolling friction | friction on an object rolling over a surface |
| fluid friction | friction on an object moving through a fluid |
| gravity | force that pulls objects toward each other |
| mass | amount of matter in an object |
| free fall | when the only force acting on an object is gravity |
| air resistance | fluid friction on an object moving though the air |
| projectile | an object that is thrown |
| compression | an elastic force that squeezes or pushes matter together |
| tension | an elastic force that stretches or pulls matter |
