TTC Antidepressants

A neurologic side effect, tardive dyskinesia, is associated with long term use and is characterized by motor restlessness antipsychotic
Adverse effects-blurred vision, constipation, and dry mouth tricyclic antidepressant
Alcohol anesthetic
Antidepressant that appears to work by inhibiting the reuptake of serontonin into certain nwuros in the brain SSRI
Approved for the treatment of OCD SSRI
Benztropine, meclizine and diphenhydramine are used to minimize side effects antipsychotic
chosen on the basis of cost, side effects, and the patients history of response antipsychotic
CIV benzo
delay in onset of relief from ten to twenty-one days antidepressant
Dopamine and serotonin are effected by these antipsychotic
Has 4 carbon rings tetracyclic
Has 3 carbon rings tricyclic
Have significant anticholinergic side effects dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention tetracyclic, tricyclic, antipsychotic
Inhibits enzymes that metabolize catecholamines MAOI
Might be prescribed for a child with a bed-wetting problem tricyclic
Might be prescribed to a patient with narcolepsy stimulant
Most used antianxiety drugs benzo
Newer drugs are catagorized as atypical typical or older agents are avoided by prescribers b/c they have serious long term side effects antipsychotic
Part of the standard of care for alcohol detox benzo
Primary indication for using these is schizophrenia antipsychotic
Reduce REM sleep, except for the benzo and chloral hydrate hypnotic
Reduce thought disorders, hallucinations, and delusions antipsychotic
Sleep agents hypnotic
Second line therapy for depression b/c of interactions with foods and drugs MAOI
Taken 1 hr before bedtime hypnotic
Treat anxiety, panic disorders, and sleep disorders benzo
