Expository Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Thesis Statement The central idea for your essay.
Thesis Statement It states your opinion.
Topic Sentence It is the first sentence of a new paragraph.
Topic Sentence It states your first reason, which supports your central idea.
Supporting Details The facts, opinions, or "short stories" that support or explain your topic sentence.
Transitions They help your paper flow or move to the next idea or paragraph.
Conclusion It restates your central idea and reasons. It also adds a feeling statement at the end!
