Vocab. 2nd q. Review

Use this list to review all vocabulary for the second quarter.

QuestionAnswer
de- A prefix meaning "off of" or "down".
inter- A prefix meaning "between" or "among".
tele- A prefix meaning "far" or "from afar".
pro- A prefix meaning "forward", "for", or "In favor of".
telescope A device for looking at objects from afar, especially objects in space.
decompose To break down, to rot or spoil.
intermural "Between the walls", described sports played indoors, often after school.
telephoto A lens for looking at objects from afar.
promoted To be moved forward to a new grade or new job position.
descend To come down off of, for example: come down a staircase.
deposit To put money down, example: put money into a bank.
proceed To move forward, to move to the next activity.
intermediate In the middle, neither high nor low.
interlude A musical piece often played during a ceremony or religious service.
interfere To come in between, to get into the way.
professional Describes an activity that is a job or occupation, not amateur, not a game for just for fun.
intercept To take from someone else, to prevent something or someone from continuing.
pronoun A word such as she, he, we, her, or they which takes the place of a noun.
telemarketer Someone who makes phone calls in order to sell goods or services.
deform Misshapen, bent
progress Forward movement towards a future goal.
televise To broadcast on television.
proclaim To announce, to make an important announcement.
depress To press down; to make someone feel sad or hopeless.
