Plot Elements
The different parts that make up a plot to a short story
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Exposition | Characters and setting are introduced, and the conflict begins to unfold |
| Rising Action | Events that occur to complicate the plot |
| Conflict | The problem or struggle in the story |
| Climax | The greatest point of interest or suspense in the story; the turning point |
| Falling Action | The events between the climax and the resolution |
| Resolution | The end of the story, when the conflict is resolved and loose ends are tied up |
| Flashback | An interruption in the plot events to relate to an earlier event |
| Foreshadowing | Hints or clues that suggest further action |
