| Term | Definition |

| Solute | the substance which is dissolved in the solvent |
| solvent | in a solution, the part of the mixture in which other substances are dissolved |
| air restistance | a force that opposes the motion of an object through air |
| solution | a mixture of two or more substances that are evenly distributed throughout |
| condensing | the change from gas to liquid as a result of cooling |
| force | a push or pull that causes an object to move, stop, or change direction |
| friction | the force that resists motion when two surfaces rub against each other |
| gravity | a force that pulls objects toward each other |
| motion | movement of an object |
| variable | a condition or factor that changes in an investigation |
| push | a force that moves something away |
| pull | a force that moves something closer |
| solubility/soluble | able to be dissolve in or by a liquid |
| boiling point | the temperature at which liquid changes to a gas; 100 degrees Celsius |
| Freezing point | the temperature at which a liquid changes to a solid |
| melting point | the temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid |
| evaporation | the process by which a liquid changes to a gas |
| mixture | a combination of two or more substances that keep their own properties |
| experiment | a test conducted to discover something |
| magnetism | the pulling force of a magnet |
| variable | a condition or factor that changes an investigation so the effects can be observed |
| position | the location of an object |
| pulley | a simple machine made of a rope or chain and a grooved wheel |
| work | what occurs when a force moves an object over a distance |
