Motion Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| motion | a change in an objects position compared to a fixed position or reference point |
| reference point | a place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion |
| distance | the length between two places |
| apparent motion | when things appear to an observer to be moving but are not actually changing position |
| speed | how fast an object's position changes |
| average speed | the total distance traveled divided by the total amount of time |
| distance-time graph | graph that shows the distance traveled by an object when measurements are taken every second |
| velocity | a description of a moving object's speed and direction |
| acceleration | a measure of the change in velocity during a period of time |
| speed-time graph | shows how speed changes over time |
