| affix | is a set of letters that is added to a root and makes a new word with a new meaning |
| prefix | is an affix attached to the beginning of a root. |
| suffix | is an affix attached to the end of a root |
| multiple meaning words | is a word that has more than one definition |
| theme or central idea | is a main message or lesson in a text. It expresses general statements that go beyond the specific events of the text. |
| informational text | gives facts or explains something about real life. |
| summary | is a short telling of the main ideas of a source in the reader’s own words |
| dictionary | is a resource that give the denotation or definitions of words |
| thesaurus | is a resource that provides synonyms and antonyms of words |
| pronounciation | is how to produce the sounds of speech and words, including articulation, stress, and intonation of syllables, words, and phrases. |
| redundancy | using words repeatedly or overlapping |
| concisely | expressing or covering a lot in only a few words, brief and to the point. |
| conventions | the rules, methods, and practice established by usage, such as grammar |
| nonfiction | the branch of literature comprising of works based upon facts and reality, including biography, history, and the essay |
| fiction | the branch of literature comprising of works based upon imaginative narration, including novels and short stories |
| contrast | to show unlikeness or differences |
| compare | to show similarities or sameness |
| analysis | the process of studying something or determining its essential features and their relations |
| explicitly | fully and clearly expressed or demonstrated, nothing merely implied; definite and clear |
| textual evidence | a quotation/words from writing that helps to prove a statement or lend credibility to an idea |
