Respiratory System brings oxygen into the body through inhalation & expels carbon dioxide gas through exhalation. produces sound for speaking & helps cool the body
Respiratory muscles especially the diaphragm expand the lungs automatically causing air to be inhaled into the upper resp tract.
Pleural cavity surrounds the lungs & provides lubrication for respiration
Pharynx directs food into the esophagus & air into the trechea
Larynx contains the vocal cords
trachea or windpipe connects the two bronchi (bronchial tubes) that enter the lungs
Alveoli specialized tissue in the lungs that are responsible for the exchange of gases between the blood & inhaled air
