| ad hominem | attack on character rather than relevant issues |
| faulty analogy | comparing two things that are not comparable |
| straw man | oversimplifying/exaggerating an opposing viewpoint |
| false dilemma | speaker builds argument on assumption there's only two possible outcomes, when there are many |
| hasty generalization | too few examples to prove point |
| circular reasoning | continuously repeating the claim |
| post hoc ergo propter hoc | assumption made that since one event occurred before the second, it caused the latter |
| appeal to false authority | simliar to testimonial. when one has no authority to speak on an issue, yet is cited as an authority |
