Integumentary System the body's first line of defense, acting as a barrier against disease & physical hazards. Helps control body temperature by releasing heat through sweat or by constricting blood vessels to act as insulation. Includes: Skin, Hair & Nails

epidermis has no blood or nerves is constantly discarding dead cells
Dermis made of living cells, contains capillaries, nerves & lymphatics. Also contains the subaceous glands, sweat glands & hair.
pachyderma pach = thick derma = skin abnormal thickness of skin
subcutaneous sub = under cutane = skin ous = pertaining to beneath the skin
