Basic Oxygen Furnace One type of Furnace used to produce Steel
Charge What is put into the furnace
Molten Pig Iron Liquid iron produced in the blast furnace
Limestone Floats the waste to the top
Scrap Metal Recycling scrap metal to reproduce steel
Oxygen Lance Blows in oxygen to raise the temperature to melt the charge
Testing The Quality of steel must be checked before Tapping.
Water Cooled oxygen Lance The lance is water cooled to stop it from melting
Fume hood An extractor fan to take away gasses produced
Refractory lining Prevents heat loss and protects the outer layer of the furnace
Tapping Spout The furnace is tilted to allow the molten steel to be removed
Slag removal The furnace is turned upside down to empty the waste
Charging the Basket The lance is removed the furnace is tilted to the side to put in the charge
