| Variable | the one factor in any experiment that is being tested |
| Control | the part of the experiment that does not contain the variable |
| Data | recorded observations and measurements |
| Hypothesis | an educated guess; a proposed explanation for a problem or observation |
| Conclusion | the result of the experiment; what is found out |
| Independent variable | what the experiment gets to choose (the x-axis on graphs) |
| Dependent variable | what happens because of the independent variable (the y-axis on graphs) |
| Objective | problem that the laboratory activity is designed to solve |
| Research | gathering information about the subject of the activity |
| Observation | what the person performing the activity sees, hears, feels, smells, or tastes |
| theory | an explaination for observed phenomena that is supported many experiments |
| scientific method | the logical and systematic process of solving a problem |
| fact | truth in nature |
| theory | a well tested explaination for a set of observations or experimental result |
| law | a statement that summarizes a pattern found in nature; an accurate prediction about what will happen |
