QuestionAnswer
Variable the one factor in any experiment that is being tested
Control the part of the experiment that does not contain the variable
Data recorded observations and measurements
Hypothesis an educated guess; a proposed explanation for a problem or observation
Conclusion the result of the experiment; what is found out
Independent variable what the experiment gets to choose (the x-axis on graphs)
Dependent variable what happens because of the independent variable (the y-axis on graphs)
Objective problem that the laboratory activity is designed to solve
Research gathering information about the subject of the activity
Observation what the person performing the activity sees, hears, feels, smells, or tastes
theory an explaination for observed phenomena that is supported many experiments
scientific method the logical and systematic process of solving a problem
fact truth in nature
theory a well tested explaination for a set of observations or experimental result
law a statement that summarizes a pattern found in nature; an accurate prediction about what will happen
