Properties and Changes of Matter

Physical Property A characteristic of matter that you can observe without changing the composition of the substance you are studying
State of Matter The phase in which matter exists; solid, liquid, gas, plasma, BEC
Chemical Property A characteristic of matter you can only observe by changing the composition of the substance you are studying
Physical Change Change in which the form or appearance of matter changes, but not its composition
Energy The ability to do work
Conservation of Mass The principle tat states that the total mass of matter remains the same after a physical or chemical change
Antoine Lavoisier 1743-1794 French scientist who discovered the principle of Conservation of Mass
Pure Substance Made up of only one type of element or molecule.
Mixture Made up of more than one type of element or molecule.
