Properties and Changes of Matter
| Term | Definition |

| Physical Property | A characteristic of matter that you can observe without changing the composition of the substance you are studying |
| State of Matter | The phase in which matter exists; solid, liquid, gas, plasma, BEC |
| Chemical Property | A characteristic of matter you can only observe by changing the composition of the substance you are studying |
| Physical Change | Change in which the form or appearance of matter changes, but not its composition |
| Energy | The ability to do work |
| Conservation of Mass | The principle tat states that the total mass of matter remains the same after a physical or chemical change |
| Antoine Lavoisier | 1743-1794 French scientist who discovered the principle of Conservation of Mass |
| Pure Substance | Made up of only one type of element or molecule. |
| Mixture | Made up of more than one type of element or molecule. |
