Vocabulary used in MMS Library

media Any tool or technology that is used to communicate with others.
fiction Made up stories
non-fiction Informational texts
biography Books about people
audio books Sets of books with a recording
Reference Books used to look up information: encyclopedias, almanacs, dictionaries, etc.
West Virginia Collection Books about WV or written by WV authors
Circulation Desk Where you check materials in and out of the library
Date Due Stamped in your book to tell when to return a book
Hold Requesting the librarian to save a book for you that is already checked out
Destiny Library Manager Online book catalog used to locate library materials
Title Name of a book
Author Person who writes a book
Barcode On all library materials, scanned to check books in and out of the library
Periodicals Another name for magazines
Story Collection Books that are made up of short stories by one author or by subject
Series Shelf Area when the most popular series books are kept to find easier
Newbery Shelf Area where award winning books are shelved
Manga/Anime Types of graphic novels
