Grimes World Geography

TermDefinition
Location Where things are located. A location can be absolute (specific) or relative (general area).
Absolute Location Locations that are specific, as in coordinates of a map. (i.e.30N/20E) "Where is it?"
Relative Location Locations in relation to other locations. (Nearby) (i.e. Next door to Smith's)
Place An area that is defined by everything in it. All places have features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places.
Region An area that is defined by certain similar characteristics. These characteristics can be physical, natural, human or cultural.
Movement The way people, products, information, and ideas are moved/exchanged. (Local- How did you get to school? Global- How did humans get to North America?)
Human-Environment Interaction This interaction looks at the relationships between the people and their environment-- how people adapt to the environment and how they change it.
This island is 64W and 16N. ABSOLUTE LOCATION
India is south of Nepal. RELATIVE LOCATION
The weather in the Congo is always hot because it is near the Equator. PLACE
In Hawaii, it is customary for visitors to receive a flower necklace called "lei" when they arrive on the island. HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
They speak many different African dialects in Kenya. Region
The river near my house has become very polluted. HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
South Korea is considered part of the Asian Continent. REGION
