Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
Term | Definition |
---|---|
state of matter | the physical forms of matter, which include solid, liquid, and gas |
solid | the state of a substance in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape |
melting point | temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid |
vaporization | the process at which a liquid changes to a gas |
bioling point | the temperature at which liquid vaporizes and changes into a gas |
condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
freezing point | the temperature at which a liquid changes to a solid |
sublimation | the process in which a solid turns directly into a gas |
Phase-changing diagram | a drawing that shows the relationship among temperature and changes of state |
plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they are bound |
