| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Sate of matter | they physical forms of matter, which include solid liquid and gas |
| Solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| Gas | a form of matter that does not have definite volume or shape |
| Melting point | temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid |
| Vaporization | process in which a liquid changes to a gas |
| Boiling point | the temperature at which a liquid vaporizes and changes to a gas |
| Condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| Freezing point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
| Sublimation | the process in which a solid a changes directly into a gas |
| Phase-change diagram | drawing that shows the relationship among temperature and changes of state |
| Plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
