TermDefinition
pure substance a sample of matter, either a single element or a single compound, that has definite chemical and physical properties.
compound a substance made up of atoms or two or more different elements joined together by chemical bonds.
molecule the smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substance.
chemical formula a combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represents substance.
subscript a small number written to the right and slightly below a chemical symbol to tell the number of atoms
mixture a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined.
