Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
Term | Definition |
---|---|
State of matter | the physical form of matter, which include solid, liquid, and gas |
Solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of substance are fixed |
Gas | a form of matter that dos not have definite volume or shape |
Melting point | temperature at which a solid changes into a liquid |
Vaporization | process in which a liquid changes in a gas |
Boiling point | the temperature at which a liquid vaporizes and changes to a gas |
Condensation | the change of state from gas to a liquid |
Freezing point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
Sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
Phase-changes diagram | drawing that shows the relationships among temperature and changes of state |
Plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
