Mixtures and Solutions

Mixture two or more substances that do not mix evenly and can be mechanically separated
Solution two or more substances that mix evenly, something is dissolved and can only be separated by heat energy or chemical reaction
Soluble a materials ability to dissolve or liquefy
Solubility the physical property which describes how easily a substance dissolves (breaks down,become liquid), or if it dissolves at all in another substance.
Solvent Th substance which is causing another material to dissolve (e.g. water)
Solute The substance that is being dissolved
Seperate to break apart becoming two or more distinct materials
Ingredient a substance that forms part of a mixture
Dissolve when a solid breaks down becomes part of a solution.
Substance A single part of a mixture or solution
Physical change Make different without changing what the material is made of, such as cutting, folding, or melting.
Physical property Measurable characteristics that describe the physical state of something.
Insoluble A substance that will not dissolve in a solution
Filtration The separation of solid particles in a mixture by passing the mixture through a screen that prevents the big parts from going through while allowing the little particles to go through.
Aqueous A substance made of, by or with water
Volume The amount of space an object takes up
Mass The measure of the amount of matter in an object
Density How tightly packed the molecules of a substance are..
Bouyancy The ability of a substance to float
