Science | The study of the natural world |
Observing | Using the senses to gather information |
Infering | Guessing based on reasoning from what you already know. |
Predicting | Making a forecast based on past experience or evidence. |
Physical Science | The study of energy and matter changes |
Chemistry | The study properties of matter and how matter changes |
Scientific Inquiry | Different ways to study the natural world |
Hypothesis | Possible answer for a scientific question, observation, or explanation |
Parameter | A measurable factor |
Manipulated Variable | A variable that is purposely changed for an experiment |
Responding Variable | A variable that changes under circumstances during the experiment |
Controlled Experiment | An investigation in which only one variable is manipulated at a time. |
Data | Facts, figures, and evidence gathered from an experiment. |
Communicating | Sharing ideas or conclusions with other scientists. |
Models | A picture or diagram that shows how an idea of science works. |

Scientific Law | What's expected to happen in a set parameter. |
SI | International System of Units |
Weight | The measure of the force of gravity |
Mass | The measure of matter in an object |
Estimate | Approximation based on a given number |
Accuracy | How close a figure is to an actual number |
Reproducibility | How close two groups are to being the same |
Scientific Figures | One exact digit and one estimate |
Precision | How exact a measurement is |
Graph | A "Picture" that shows data |
Horizontal Axis | The axis that goes from left to right |
Vertical Axis | The axis that goes up and down |
Origin | The place where the axes cross |
Coordinate | A pair of numbers that show data between the x and y axes |
Data Point | A "point" that shows where that intersection is |
Line of best fit | A smooth line that shows a pattern |
Linear Graph | A graph result that shows a straight line |
Slope | The calculated steepness of a graph line |
Nonlinear Graph | Graph that does not show a straight line |
