Theme main idea of a literary work; usually not stated--you must figure it out
Setting time and place in which a story takes place
Characters people or actors in a story
Point of View the story teller's point of view from which the story is being told
Characterization description of the personalities of the characters in the story; way the author reveals characters' personalities
Plot order of events in a story
Exposition Part of plot; tells how the story starts; introduces setting and characters
Rising Action Part of plot; action in the story that leads to the climax
Conflict Part of plot; struggles or problems between opposing forces
Climax Part of plot; point of crisis in the plot; reader's point of highest interest or turning point
Falling Action Part of plot; action in the story after the climax
Resolution Part of plot; revels the final outcome or solution
First Person Part of Point of View; a character narrates the story with I-me-my-mine in his or her speech
Third Person Limited Part of Point of View; story told from author's point of view; reader enters only one character's mind,
Third Person Omniscient Part of Point of View; story told from author's point of view, who also knows the feelings and thoughts of the characters
