Forms of Energy

TermDefinition
Energy the ability to do work, to cause a change, or to move an object
Kinetic Energy the energy that an object has due to its motion
Potential Energy the stored energy that results from the position, condition, or shape of an object
Electrical Energy related to the movement or flow of electrons which carry a charge
Nuclear Energy related to the potential energy stored between the particles in the nucleus of an atom
Chemical Energy related to the potential energy stored in the bonds between the atoms in a compound
Mechanical Energy related to the movement of an object or its position in gravity; allows an object to apply a force to another object and make it move; the sum of PE and KE of an object
Thermal/Heat Energy related to the motion of atoms or molecules in a substance
Electromagnetic Energy energy that is reflected or emitted from objects in the form of electrical and magnetic waves that can travel through space
Light/Radiant Energy related to the vibrations of an electrical charge or magnetic field that produces electromagnetic waves that can travel through a vacuum such as space
