| integer problem | a word problem that involves integers, the integers are the counting number, their opposites, and zero |
| interest | a payment for the use of money borrowed |
| interest formula | I = prt is a formula used to compute the interest for a specific principal, rate, and time period |
| lever formula | w1w1 = w2w2 is the formula expressing the relationship of the weights and distances in a lever situation |
| lever problem | a word problem that deals with lever principle. which involves a fulcrum and balance. seesaws are good example of levers |
| mixture problem | a word problem that involves mixing candy, chemicals, or other quantities of different values |
| motion problem | a word problem that involves the distance a moving object will travel at a certain average rate for a given period of time |
| number problem | an algebraic word problem that provides relationships for finding certain numbers |
| odd integer | any number that does not have 2 as a factor or cannot be divided by 2 with zero remainder. any odd number can written as 2n + 1, where n is an integer |
| principal | the amount of money invested at a certain rate of interest. also, the amount of money borrowed at a certain rate of interest |
| rate | the distance an object will travel divided by the time it will travel: r = d/t |
| supplementary angles | two angles whose sum is 180 degrees. each angle is the supplement of the other |
| variable | a letter used in a mathematical expression |
| verbal problem | a problem stated in words. its solution requires making a variable assignment, writing and solving an equation, checking the result in the problem, and writing a verbal answer |
| word problems | see verbal problem |
