States of Matter

TermDefinition
Solid The state of matter in which the volume and shape are definite, particles are locked together in position and vibrate
Liquid The state of matter which has a definite volume but an indefinite shape, particles are moving and slide past each other
Gas The state of matter which has an indefinite volume and shape, particles are move independently and collide frequently.
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Definite Does not change
Indefinite Can change
Mass The measure of the amount of matter in an object
Volume A measure of size in 3D space, how much an object can be filled
States of Matter Physical forms of a substance, depends of the motion of particles
Atom The smallest unit of matter
Molecules Smallest unit of of a chemical, made up of atoms
Attraction The invisible force that brings/binds atoms together into molecules or particles
Collide When particles more around and bump into each other, it usually sends the particles in different directions
