TermDefinition
Gas The state of matter with no definite volume or shape.
Matter Anything that has mas that take up space.
State Description of the object as a solid, liquid, or gas.
Solid Definite shape and volume.
Physical change Changes in which the form or shape of a substance changes but the substance keeps it's identity.
Liquid Matter with a definite volume but no definite shape
Volume The amount of space that matter takes up.
Solubility The ability of an object to dissolve when mixed in another.
Magnetic The ability of an object to attract to iron or steel.
Boiling Point A change in the state from a solid to a liquid.
Relative density Determines whether one substance will sink or float.
Mass The amount of matter in something.
Temperature A measure of the energy of motion of the particles in a substance.
Freezing point A change in the state from a liquid to a solid.
Odor A stench
Conductor of heat Something that helps pass heat.
Insulator of heat Stops passing of heat.
Conductor of electricity Something that helps pass electric.
Insulator of electric Stops the flow of electric.
Shape Physical appearance.
Size How big or small something is.
Nonmagnetic Can not attract to iron or steel.
Pull A force that moves something closer.
Push A force that moves something away.
Work What occurs when forces move an object over a distance.
Motion Movement of an object.
Friction The force that resists motion when 2 surfaces rub against each other.
Pulley A simple machine made of a rope or chain and grooved wheel.
Variable A condition or factor that changes in an investigation so the effects can be observed.
Experiment A test conducted to discover something.
Position The location of an object.
Force A push or pull that causes an object to move,stop, or change direction.
Gravity A force that pulls objects towards each other
Air Resistance A force that opposes the motion of an object through the air.

Inherited trait A characteristic passed from parents to offspring through a gene.
Gene Part of cells that controls or influences inherited traits.
Dominate trait A trait that appears if an organism has one factor for that trait.
Recessive trait A trait that appears only if an organism has 2 factors for that trait.
Innate behavior A behavior of an organism that is born with .
Learned Behavior A behavior that an animal learned over time.
Consumer An organism that gets energy from eating other organisms.(carnivore and herbivore)
Producer An organism that gets energy from the Sun.(plant)
Omnivore An organism that eats both plants and animals.
