decibel A unit used to express a ratio between two values
compression A reduction in the number of bits needed to represent data
rarefaction The reduction of an items density
Doppler Effect The change in frequency of a wave
vacuum Space in which there is no matter
frequency The rate at which a vibration occurs
hertz The unit of frequency
ultrasonic Sound waves with a frequency above the upper limit
infrasonic Denoting sound waves with a frequency
echo a sound or series of sounds caused by the reflection of sound waves from a surface back to the listener
interference the combination of two or more electromagnetic waveforms to form a resultant wave in which the displacement is either reinforced or canceled
reverberation the collection of reflected sounds from the surfaces in an enclosure
pitch the quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations
oscilloscope An electrical testing device used to measure a frequency
wavelength the distance between successive crests of a wave
crest is a point on the wave where the displacement of the medium is at a maximum
trough A point on the wave
kilohertz a measure of frequency
megahertz measure of the frequency
echolocation the location of objects by reflected sound
Rhythm a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound
