QuestionAnswer
What is a hypothesis? A possible explanation or prediction that can be tested and compared to scientific evidence. If/then/because statements are encouraged. Avoid pronouns. Do NOT start with It!
What is the scientific method? A process for thinking and learning that begins with asking a question and ends with a comparison of scientific evidence to the hypothesis.
What is an experimental variable? The ONE thing that is changed in an experiment. The experimental variable is what is being tested it is often called the independent variable.
What are constants? Constants are the things in the experiment that are kept the same to better isolate the experimental variable. These are sometimes called the control variables.
What does it mean for evidence to be objective? Objective describes science evidence that is gathered in an experiment. It contains no opinions or pronouns.
What does it mean to be subjective? Subjective refers to hypotheses and evidence with personal statements and opinions in them. This is not strong scientific evidence and should be avoided.
What are the steps of the scientific method? 1. Ask a question. 2.Form a hypothesis. 3. Collect scientific evidence. 4. Compare evidence to support or reject the hypothesis. 5. Draw conclusions and apply learning.
What is an independent variable? In an experiment, this is the variable that is changed and causes change in the dependent variable.
What is another name for independent variable? Experimental variable.
What is a dependent variable? In an experiment, this is the variable that changes because of the independent variable.
Which axis on a graph shows the independent variable? The X axis.
Which axis on a graph shows the dependent variable? The Y axis.
What are the three relationships shown by a line graph? A STRONG relationship, a WEAK relationship or NO relationship.
